    Hi guys,
I am currently using Avid Express Pro HD (soon to be FCP) and I record in P2 on the FS-100.

After my first lot of shooting, I transfer the CONTENTS (and.txt) folders to an external hard drive and Avid sees it just fine.

My question is: How do I setup the external hard drive folder structure so that I can add multiple CONTENTS FOLDERS, (ie. I do multiple shoots and want to add the new CONTENTS to the existing footage that is already on the external disk)?

In FCP you select where the CONTENTS folder is. So putting each “reel” in different folders works great.

Common sense says that AVID should have a way to do it, but I can’t help you out here? Anyone else?

Avid just added a new P2 tool to Xpress Pro 5.7 which allows you to point at a normal file structure. This means you can finally nest the CONTENTS folders the way you think you should be able too. I think 5.7 is a $50 upgrade and is the best solution. Otherwise, since Avid does not need the lastclip file, you can just keep copying all of your files to the same CONTENTS folder. Windows will prompt you to overwrite the folder, but that does not delete the files that are already there. Try it with some test footage, it does work. The other solution, which is what the P2 Store does, is to make multiple partitions on the drive so that every CONTENTS folder is in the root of it’s own drive letter. Having tried all of these, the upgrade to 5.7 is by far the best.

Hey Rumpy.. many thanks for that… glad I wasn’t going nuts.
I’m on Express 5.5.3 and since I’ve just bought FCP, I’ll hold off buying the upgrade but will try putting all the new files into teh CONTENTS folder. Once again, thanks.
