P2 MXF Files Duplicate Names on Hard drive
I received a hard drive with MXF files on it. There are duplicate file names. This has caused huge problems. There approx 25 clips that are duplicates (plus all the audio, obviously). How do I rename these files. I am using Avid Xpress pro HD with Mojo and Avid will not see these files after I tried to rename them.

Can you lay out for us the schema of the filing system of that hard drive?
Seems like it might be difficult to have many files that have the same name, my computer won’t let me do that, so I am curious about the structure of the filing system that allows this to happen. A closer look might show the audio file names are similar, but that does allow for audio to be identified with its video.So if using the Media Tool you should be able to identify this drive and consolidate the drive.
More examples needed to really help.
Also, ask the person that shot it for you to identify his method of offloading footage from the P2 Cards. That will also help us get a snap shot of what you have there.

A really obvious question, but…are the files themselves duplicates, or do you actually have two different media files with the same name? I’ve only seen this happen a couple of times and for me it was when a P2 card was copied directly to a drive, and also copied to a P2 store which was later copied to that same drive. So whatever files were on the card were also on the P2 store, and ended up on the hard drive twice but in separate folders. If the identically named files are the same size then something like this has probably happened.
Sorry if this line of thinking is irrelevant to your situation but it’s the only thing in my experience that would cause what you describe.
In my case, I was still able to import both sets of files into Final Cut Pro, verify that they were indeed duplicates, and delete one of each pair.

Actually, when I tried to copy the files it showed they where duplicate names AND different sizes. I am only on the receiving end of these files. The photographer and person that transferred these files from the P2 cards is trying to get answers as well.
Anyhow, now that this has occurred, I have tried to rename these files 3 times but none seem to allow me to get these files in. When I copy them and then open up AVID, AVID won’t see them. Any help would be appreciated.

I am in a difficult situation. I have these files that have duplicate names and basically at this point I need to know how I can remname them so that they are accepted into my Avid editing system.
I would like to know what happened during the loading of these files from the P2 cards however the cameraman has not gotten back to me.
My main concern now is being able to use these files.
