Problem: mechanical noise/hum when XLR audio cables attached to HVX 200 when an AC powered Panasonic LH900 LCD is hooked into component out.

    The physical set up:
Battery powered HVX200 with XLR to audio input

Did you put a ground lift on the ac for the monitor? You tried two different power supplies for the monitor, you said?

    Jeremy:

Thanks for the quick response re: ground lifter.
Good thought, but didn’t work. The hum is still there.

Yes, I did try powering the LH900 with both an NRG and and Aspen power supply.

Also, Just for grins I pluged the camera composite out to the LH900 video in and there was no hum. However, when I touched the XLR connector there was a tiny click and a slight increase in white noise.

So, major spotlight on the component cable system, and still a shielding problem.

    Thanks again,

We use a 900 with an HVX but we run exclusively off of battery. We have two trim packs just for the monitor that are on a constant cycle. If we are out far on location with no power we also have some regular anton’s that we can sacrifice if not running a big body camera, if we need more battery we just rent. Sorry to say I have not tried to power the monitor with AC, but if I find something that works, I’ll let you know. The component cable does leave a little to be desired on the HVX.

Did you try the choke that came with the HVX200?

panasonic includes a magnetic choke as part of the HVX’s basic package, and it is intended solve this issue when using AC power instead of the batteries.

I thought the ferrite core was for connecting the firewire cable straight from the cam to a pc?

I too thought the ferrite core was for connecting the firewire cable from the cam to a pc, but It’s worth a try. I’ll let you know how it works out.

    Thanks again for your insights.
