Dropped Frames with P2 media in FCP
I’ve gone over this several times, with no solution. When editing in FCP, I keep getting a dropped frame during a cross dissolve on the in-bound shot at the very end of the effect. It’s very noticeable as some of the shots are of fast moving subjects. Here are my settings, both in camera and in sequence:
P2 media, recorded at 720/24PN, at both 60 FPS and 48 FPS frame rates
imported into a 720/24P sequence in FCP.
are the variable frame rates a contributor to this? Has anyone else noticed this issue? Also, I’m using the latest version of FCP.

I’m sorry guys – CORRECTION: I’m using Final Cut 5.0.4 – I thought it was the latest version because I use my software update regularly – didn’t know there was a 5.1 out there until now.
anyway, will updating fix this bug? I’ll give it a try.

Fixed the bug?
DF usually result from a media drive that isn’t fast enough.
What are you using as a dedicated internal SATA drive, and what are its specs.

5.1 may be the answer- and it’s cheap if you own 5.04 so…

Does it stop playing and tell you there is dropped frames or is it just kind of skipping into the following clip as it gets to the end of the dissolve?
Do you have enough footage on each clip for the length of the dissolve?
Have you tried rendering the effect? -

You might be careful upgradign to 5.1. I found out a few days ago in another post that if you are editing in FCP and switch from 504 to 5.1 there are some kinds of problems with playing back the footage. I am still using 504 and am not going to upgrade until the problem s solved. Then on the other hand I don’t know what the problems is? Audio sync? Drop Frame or what happens.

5.1.1 fixed the problem for us. The trick is that you need to reimport all the files into your project from the original MXF files. It is perfectly smooth across dissolves now. Man, I’m happy… that was a real problem, as the video “stuck” coming out of the dissolves…

yeah, that’s exactly the problem…it’s not a hardward problem, definitely…the drives are fast enough (we’ve got an Apple RAID loaded).
by the way, have you had any other issues with the upgrade to FCP 5.1, as earlier posts indicated? I’m sending in my disks this week!
