    Hi,

I am an Australian member wanting to import 1080p 25fps footage from a Panasonic P2 card into FCP. Is this possible as yet?

I am using FCP 5.0.4, QT 7.0.3 and OSX 10.3.9. I have watched Shane’s tutorial which says that I need 10.4.3 to import, but am not sure if this is the only thing I’m doing wrong. I have been able to import one of my clips but not the others – coming up with error msg ‘one or more p2 clips failed to import; probable incomplete or corrupt clips.’

Does anyone know what could be the problem here?

    Thanks,
    Koma83

AFAIK- PAL 25p is not yet supported under FCP. You might check with DVfilm.com I believe they may have some sort of workaround available.

1080 shouldn’t be a problem, just drop it in an i50 timeline and off you go. You may want to set the field dominance to “none”.

This is how Varicam footage is edited:
Upconvert in 1200 deck to 1080 and edit as 25 pfs (i.e. in a i50 timeline)

Both 1080/50i and 1080/25P are currently supported with FCP 5.0.4. Any 720P flavor is not supported yet for Pal users.
We have made tests on a G5, a I-Book and a Powerbook( Quicktime 7.0.4, OS 10.4.6) connecting either the camera through firewire or the P2 store through USB. We ‘ve used internal drives and an external 1 To LaCie drive
1080/50i and 1080/25P can be mixed on the same sequence without any rendering.
We have made a 2 weeks shooting and charts trial and have been surprised by the fact the unit we have tested underexposed in most shooting conditions over 1 F stop.

Sorry, if it is not available in english yet.

Or, you could try out the newest HD Log demo we posted yesterday that appears to solve the PAL 720 issues 😉

You should be able to view 720/25 or 50, and create QT files of selected P2 clips.

Video logging is just the beginning…

Thanks Dan for the HD Log info and 720/25 or 50 editing!
    Have not tried that yet.
