  • HVX200 not recognized through USB 2 on laptop…

Posted by Pierreg on April 19, 2006 at 12:53 pm

My laptop refuses to recognize the HVX200 device? I have tried several cables, even tried a couple of different computers, but they will not recognize the device?? Any ideas?
Because the device is not recognized, the computer will not load the device drives that comes with the camera. The computer recognized the P2 cards, thank goodness, and thus installed tyhe card drivers, but not the device driver.
Second problem: the P2 Viewer is loaded on my machine, and it recognizes the files on the cards, but will not play them? I double click on the clip, it seems to load to the viewer on the right side, but the play buttons will not show the clip? The computer has 2GB of ram, dual Pent 4 3.20 GHZ…so I am not inclined to think it is power that is an issue? Thoughts?

    Hi,

Have you loaded the drivers from the CD that came with the camera, or visited the website for the latest version of those drivers. The website is in the ops manual a numbber of times. Thumb through the first couple pagesand I am sure you will find it.

    Best,

    Jan:

I have done both. I downloaded the drivers, but the same thing happens, the drivers won’t load unless they recogize the device as being attached, and the device isn’t being recognized. I cannot find any way to force-load the drivers ignoring the need for the device to be there.
I have access to another HVX-200 and will try with that camera today to see if it is a camera specific problem or not…I have ruled out the cable, and I have tried on several computers, so I am confident it is not the computer….??
Any thoughts on the P2 Viewer not running the clips from the P2 cards? I cannot find any instructions for the P2 Viewer, but I presume it is as simple as it appears…

Have you been setting the HVX in PC/DUB mode? You have to set the menus to “USB DEVICE” and you have to go to MCR mode and then hold the button down for several seconds before the camera toggles into PC/DUB mode. USB is only active in PC/DUB mode.
