  • Has anyone found a third party, G5 compatible, P2 card reader?

Posted by Qtmedia on April 11, 2006 at 6:34 pm

Working with a G5 PowerPC system that does not have PCMCIA slots . . . any ideas for P2 card readers other than the Panasonic reader?

Considering buying a G4 Powerbook just to ingest footage, but i would rather buy a new Intel MacBook Pro that works with a separate P2 reader.

Any suggestions on G5, MacBookPro compatible P2 readers?

You hit it on the head, it’s a powerbook. Or you can get Panasonic’s 5 P2 card reader for the low low price of $2500. Don’t forget NABs around the corner, I’d hold off on a purchase (if you can) until then.

you might try using Bootcamp and a copy of XP to use a PCMCIA card reader via PCI.

[qt] “but i would rather buy a new Intel MacBook Pro that works with a separate P2 reader.”

    So would I.

But you need a 32-bit USB or Firewire reader, and there ain’t around.

Dunno if it works with P2 cards though. Might…but…untested.

It does show that it is a 32-bit reader, and Mac compatible.

However, no info on whether it will work with a G5.

It is a PCI card, why wouldn’t it work with a G5? IN fact, it says this:

“Provides one PC Card slot through your Power Mac’s PCI bus”

It works with the PCI-X Macs, I believe, not the PCIe models. Possibly. Contact them and ask.
