Unlike the sony z1 the HVX200 only shoots in either pal or NTSC.
If some one needs to shoot in both formats whats the best options? ( without buying two cameras)..
Using snell & wilcox platinum alchemist for the conversion. Whats the best conversion. Using the HVX200 Shooting 24fps. So convert from 24fps to 25fps pal. Or shoot with the HVX200 25fps pal and convert to 30fps NTSC. Or doesn’t it matter what camera you shoot with?

If you just speed up 24p to 25p you don’t need any conversion hardware at all, the picture is also perfect. Cinema Tools will do this for you with the “conform” option.

The 24fps to 25fps workflow has been around awhile, it has been set standard for conversion from film materials for over FOUR decades.
AVID Apple, Quantel, Discreet and nearly all others support that conversion natively.

Graeme so I need the Ntsc model of the Hvx 200 and not the Pal model. To enable me to do 25p and the 30p for the USA market. I couldn’t do this with the Pal version of the camera?….
    Thanks

You can convert easily from 25p to 24p or 24p to 25p – it doesn’t matter which way around you do it.

I need to shoot 25fps for Europe and I need to shoot 30fps for the USA. I live in Europe. Graeme what camera would you need?….The HVX 200 pal or the HVX 200 NTSC?..

    Thanks

Either you shoot 25p and conform to 24p, then add 3:2 pulldown for USA, or…

Or shoot 24p, conform to 25p for PAL.

Works great either way. You shouldn’t shoot 30p as it doesn’t convert to PAL nicely/quickly/easily.

So it’s best to buy the Hvx 200 Ntsc version…..Shoot 30fps for USA market and shoot 24fps convert to 25fps for Europe…..Because it wouldn’t work quite so well using the Hvx 200 pal camera due to the five frames you need to make up on the conversion?….Is this about right?
    Thanks

No, shoot 24p for the USA market and convert that to 25p for the PAL market. Shooting 30p doesn’t convert to PAL very well. You only ever need to shoot 24p.

I thought the USA frame rate was 30 and not 24….Do I have to do anything to the 24 frames to get it to 30?

USA frame rate is really 29.97fps, or more accurately 30*1000/1001, but that’s not the point. Film runs at 24p, video that runs at 24p really runs at 23.98fps, and to get to NTSC “30fps” or 29.97fps you add 3:2 pulldown. It’s very, very standard and how film is always shown on USA TV. You’ll have no worries going that route at all.
