“Issues” or items to consider with HVX-200 1. P2 not necessary (cool). 2. Archiving? 3. Stealth Controller?
After checking out Sony and the JVC HDV camcorder (it sure is pretty), it is clear to me that the Panny has by far the most potential and for a few thousand $ extra (firestore drives and HD ready computers & editing suite). Drop out is bad enough, who wants to play around with it in HDV?
In my market, (corp/college performing arts/community TV/extreme indie film), there will be no need for HD for several years at least. Why not pay and extra couple k instead of buying lens adapters for my DVX-100’s and grab this camera?
1. My biggest concern is Archiving. How do we do it and how much will it cost? What is the shelf life of a hard drive (you will need 2 because they can’t be trusted).
2. Will the old stealth controller still work? Camera looks like a DVX-100 front end with a new back end on it.
3. By the time I need to shoot HD, hard drives will be insanely cheap, no need for P2 unless you want it. In theory this could be a good work horse camera for 5-10 years like PD-150 was.
Thoughts? Ideas? Comments?
This in my opinion could be the most exciting developement for my business since we started. Super cool stuff. Home equity loan baby!
