  New addition to the AE scripts arsenal

  I just purchased this one yesterday, and have been playing with it in AE 6 – it’s called LinesCreator, and here’s the developer, Tihomir “Tony” Trifonov’s website:

  I’d been eyeing Plextor for some time, but didn’t need the complexity that it offered, or the price tag. I also knew that you could do it with expressions and the Beam effect, but hadn’t attempted to go “under the hood” to do it that way. Enter LinesCreator. For 24 bucks, I can do everything I wanted to do with Plextor, but didn’t have the budget for. It works fine in CS6, although I don’t see it listed as compatible on the site – Tony assured me it was.

  Let me preface this by saying that I paid for LinesCreator, and am just starting to use it; I have no monetary ties to Tony – I like his script, and I like to support developers of AE stuff directly. It’s also posted on Adobe Exchange, and links directly to Tony’s site.

  Interesting. It looks like this uses Shape Layers in lieu of the beam effect? Or are there options that allow you to choose the method of drawing the line? Shape Layers have their benefits but it’s pretty undesirable to see the ‘edge’ of them in 3D.

  This doesn’t look like a replacement for Plexus, as that feature set goes well beyond connecting objects with lines, but if you aren’t comfortable rolling your own expressions and you need some lines this looks pretty good 🙂

  No…it doesn’t have anywhere near the power of Plexus, but I was looking for something affordable which would save me some time connecting elements with lines, and this does it. Plus the fact that the lines are Shapes gives you possibilities which I’ve only started to play with – Dashes, Dots, Gradients. Some may be useful, some not…
