  How could i replicate this random blurring effect?

  Hi guys, i’m loving this blurring effect used on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1CTbE3u0PQ

  any ideas how i could replicate it in ae?

  It looks to me like the blur was created in camera, using a shallow depth of field.

  You could mimic this in post with the Camera Lens Blur effect:

  to be more specific:

  1:46-1:49 ish

  when it looks like- the point that is in focus, moves around the frame randomly

  if that makes sense

  i’m thinking i could create a mask with a blur on it, feather it out then whizz it around the frame with a random expression?

  watching it again, it does look like did just spin the focus wheel whilst hitting the camera jj abrams style.

  sooo i could just wiggle my footage’s x and y position, and wiggle a blur on the footage.

  sorry for clogging up the forum guys!!

  If you try to wiggle your footage you’re not going to be able to recreate that effect. What Todd was trying to tell you is that entire effect you see was from the Camera, specifically a very shallow DOF as Todd mentioned.

  if you want to recreate this effect I suggest you search Vimeo for “film burns” or “light leaks”, there is probably a decent amount of free footage out there with film burns and light leaks. Download what you can find and then experiment laying it over your footage with different blending modes, Screen will probably work the best if they are shot on black which they usually are. I’d try to slice up the layer so it only appears for a second or two to get that sort of look.
