  • Possible to affect layer order for FCP X generator?

Posted by Tangier Clarke on March 7, 2019 at 6:19 pm

I made a custom generator of a grid with 6 squares, three on top and three on the bottom. Occasionally I will need to choose a square in FCP X and and scale it until it’s full frame. Though I’ve published the scale and position parameters, I can’t choose which box is always on the top so it scales over the others. Right now the scale and position parameters assume the layer order in Motion which means sometimes the box I choose will scale behind the others.

Is affecting the layer order in a generator possible? I’d rather not have to make a generator for each box if I can avoid it.

Sure – make it a 3D project, and then publish Position-Z for every square. Decrease the value slightly for the one you want to be on top.

DAMMIT… beat me to it, once again. ????

Though the question is, whether the other squares need to stay visible? Or are you not scaling full screen? In which case, if they don’t need to be visible, you could solve it other ways as well.
