    Hi

I just bought a motion template from motionvfx but when I open it in motion and try and play it, it won’t play and when I try and change the text or drop pictures in the drop zone it is just very slow and then doesn’t work properly. The template is for Motion 4 and I have Motion 4, does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks
    Michelle

I have found that templates can be big files and because of that they will play back sluggish. What happens when you change the text?

It is project_401 from motionvfx.com although I managed to put in all the pics in the drop zones and I managed to change the text (even though it took ages and I had to wait a minute after I did anything for it to catch up) when I thought it was good enough I saved it and imported it to FCP, when I tried to play on viewer it did nothing other than a couple of stutters but I dropped it into the timeline and rendered it (which took ages) but after that it works fine.

So good news is I got it to work but it was a nightmare and I can’t watch my work back in motion I have to save and import and render which is a lot of time to then see I have made a mistake and have to do it all over again.

Not sure if that is the only way or if I am doing something wrong

Looks to be a fairly complex template with lots of blur and lighting effects going on. Chances are it’s just taxing your system quite a bit which is causing the slow down. You can try setting the render to “draft” while working on it, and even cutting the resolution to 1/2. This might cut down the stuttering a bit while working on the project. However when rendering at full res your still going to be stuck with the long render times, it’s the nature of the beast when working in complex projects.
