how is motion 5 stacking up to AE Basics
Posted by Nelson May on June 22, 2011 at 11:07 pmI have been using AE Cs4 for basic titles and lower thirds. I have also been doing a little 3D, But I want to know if there have been some really strong improvements in M5 over M4. Sorry, but if it is good, I will use it as a stand alone. I am not going to FCP X for a while.

June 23, 2011 at 12:49 amWell if you don’t count the powerful new publishing and rigging options that turn Motion into a full-fledged development tool for effects for Final Cut Pro, the vastly improved keyer, several other new items, full-floating point processing, full color management, and a complete code rewrite – then sure, same tool 🙂

June 23, 2011 at 4:05 pmMark, people are just having a hard time getting used to the new workflows and they are so frustrated that their old workflows are gone that they do not even notice the awesome changes. Motion 5 isn’t the After Effects killer that everyone was dreaming on, what it is, is a HUGE step forward in getting there.
For me and my business, we could never use After Effects. It’s to slow and does not have the content / ease of use. I’ll say this thought, After Effects wins because of the community.’
Oh, and get ready for the flood of new Motion Graphics artist wanting a cheap way to get a LEGAL version of their software, $50 price tag is going to be great for Motion.

June 23, 2011 at 8:51 pmI love to edit in FCP. Then I select the clips I want to work with in Motion and do Send To Motion. Then I add my graphics and Motion and then just return to FCP and there it is. I’m not happy about the missing “Send To Motion” feature.

June 23, 2011 at 9:06 pmSeeing as how you had your hands on Motion well before Tuesday I would say that I would trust your guess on what will and will not happen at Apple in regards to Motion. Any idea on when it will come?

June 26, 2011 at 4:56 pmGreat point. Like many others I’m busy investing all my time learning After Effects because
1 the way it seemlessly works in a CS5 workflow
2 the huge online community behind itBut if the Motion community grows exponentially, this entire scenario may change.
I’d love to get a detailed, up to date, and objective analysis-comparison between Motion 5 and the latest AE.
I’m sure there are many advantages in using Motion 5 that novices like myself aren’t aware of…Local is the new global
