I have a star field that I want to fade across the scene as the sun comes up. Is there some way to add a gradient on the layer that operates the opacity of the layer?
I need it to remain on an alpha channel as I have other layers behind it that i need to see.

    thanks for any advice!

Sure you can use a black to white gradient as the source for an image mask applied to your scene.
