Two Bizzare Motion 3 problems
Hi!
I am a highschool student currently putting together a PSA on littering. I have been using Final Cut Pro and Soundtrack Pro for quite some time but this project is my first foray into the world of Motion 3. After a bit of learning I figured out how to do what I wanted to do and started my composite. Once I had completed the first parts I wanted to take look at the FCP timeline to make sure things were synching up properly.
I go back into FCP and can see my composite unrendered on the timeline. I render it, and upon completion the entire clip turns a solid green color. What? I tried this a few times with the same result.

https://img189.imageshack.us/img189/1281/picture26xz.pngI gave up on that method, instead exporting the clip out of motion at the highest quality possible and reimporting it into my FCP timeline. It worked, except for one problem. The quality of the composited clip is abysmal. I thought it might just be how final cut was displaying it so I exported via compressor and burned a dvd. Nope, still has a very noticeable and very nasty quality loss.

What hardware and software are you using? What graphics card? Shouldn’t be having this issue.

I am working towards a deadline, and am running out of things to try.
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Your stock graphics card is probably the culprit. I would try again rendering out of Motion using ProResHQ.

I tried exporting @ Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), takes care of the green problem but gives me the terrible quality problem.
I was not on my home computer when I replied about my gfx card. I was wrong, its not a 5700 it is a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256mb.
I suppose it IS an older card (2006).
Now Im thinking about what I need to do in this situation. Buy a more powerful card? Or perhaps buy one or two more 7300 GT’s and put them in the free slots. Would that even work?
Very open to suggestions, I am going to be doing a whole lot more work utilizing motion 3 and other graphics heavy applications in the future and am willing to do an upgrade now.
In the meantime I suppose I will just have to live with the awful quality.

If you have poor quality with ProRes HQ, then something else is going on. You may not be evaluating the image correctly, take a look at this article:
