  motion clips not showing

  if i have a motion clip in my timeline that i have not rendered -such as a lower third- it appears in the canvas window like it should. when i render it, it no longer shows. i can double click and it appears and plays in the viewer but not in the canvas or in the final when i export it. Thoughts? thanks.
