Hi – I am importing adobe illustrator cs3 files into motion 2.1. When i add a blur filter to the image, the blur doesn’t seem to extend past an ‘imaginary’ cropped area. It’s as though the file has been cropped tightly to the illustrator artwork. i can’t find any way to control this through Ai or Motion.

    Any ideas?

Try applying the blur to the group, not the object.

Hi – no this doesn’t work either. Also, when I try to add a distortion filter to the imported file, it only shows the filter within the cropped area… I may have to work around it using alpha channels in photoshop.

Did you change the crop area in AI?

I have tried that also – it doesn’t seem to make any difference. I’ve opened the ai file in photoshop at 720px x 576px with a transparent background and this works OK. I’m new to motion and final cut – this might be a glitch of some sort… cheers for the advice.

Are you sure you changed the crop area and not the ‘stage’ area in AI?

If you look at the blur paramaters in the filters tab there is an option to crop with a tick box next to it, make sure this is unchecked.

    Hope this helps.

Make sure that the element you are trying to blur has fixed resolution turned off. There is a good text file on this on http://www.motionsmarts.com
