Pan & scan w/ Motion
I’ve been using Motion for moving on pictures for some time now and am generally pleased with it. I have trouble though getting my moves to gently come to an end without a discernable bump. . I just want to slow down the zoom as it gets to the end. Ease In seems to put a curve on the move instead of slowing it down. I used the demo version of Moving Picture which does this automatically, but it is more limited than Motion. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Here’s the deal, IMHO: Motion automatically causes position keyframes to be interpolated as bezier, but scale keyframes are interpreted as linear. I have found that by simply changing the scale keyframes to bezier to match the position keyframes, I get smooth as butter starts and stops.

Scale, rotation, shear and opacity have linear keyframes, position and anchor point have bezier keyframes by default.

Thank you! That works perfectly for me. I had tried that before, but I was only changing the Y scale because the the X scale was hidden behind it. That resulted in the image being squished and elongated before returning to the proper aspect ratio. Now I’m very happy.

Coming from other apps with keyframes, the Motion KF editor is a little different as x and y values are separated. They often sit one on top of the other in the editor, so when you click on a KF icon it only selects the top one of the two in that location. To select all KFs there, marquee drag a box around the KF location.
You can also turn the individual KF displays on and off, but it’s painstaking to do it that way.
