  Remove the hollow sound of a person talking

  Hello, I am trying to do some restoration with a sound shot with a canon dv-camera. You can hear a man is talking, but it hears like he is talking inside a cavern or something. How do I remove it?

  I will listen to your clip when I get home tonight, but I really don’t think there is much that can be done and keep the integraty of the clip ……….. WILLIE

  Sorry but there isn’t any way I know of using Audition that will remove the the echo from your clip … I see this alot and have tried over and over again to come up with a way of removing it … Here is what you are up against … You have a sound that spans all the frequencies of the audio in the clip so there isn’t any way to clean it up without affecting the audio in a very negative way … I wish I had better news ……… WILLIE

  Yes, it is very difficult, but I was able to come up with something that are not good, but better:

  I used the “Parametric Equalizer”.

  I had better luck when editing the clip using FFT Filters.
  Begin with something like ‘Telephone – Voice Mail’ preset
  and tweak/create edit points at around the 1760 – 3520 Hz.

  You did hit one of the four show killers:

  White noise (rain in the trees).
  Microphone too high/low.
  Moving interference (MetroBus)
  Echoes

  Echoes seem like they should be curable, but the thing about echoes is that it’s the talent’s own voice coming back late from the walls of the performance area. Very few software packages will remove an actor from himself.

  Under certain very limited circumstances you can use a noise gate, but for the most part, you have no show.
