Pop song chorus effect
I’ve been wondering about how to recreate this effect for quite a while now. It’s that sort of artificial-background-vocal effect you here in a lot of pop songs.
From what I can tell, it involves some sort of double-tracking and stereo-field expansion, but that tends to leave things sounding really hollow and metallic. Does anyone know of a way to give the vocals a little more clarity and solidity while still having a strong chorus effect? I’m sure it’s all fairly complicated but there must be some basic trick to it.
Here’re a few examples of what I mean (There are back-up vocals in certain points but try to ignore those if you can. Listen for the moments where the singer has the chorus effect without the additional background voices)

I could be missing what you are looking to create, but it sounds like the vocal is just doubled meaning the vocalist just came back and sang with the original vocal … I have done things where I have had a bit of verb on the main vocal and took dry copies and panned one left 70 and right 70, on these vocals I added a chorus effect and mixed them in 2 to 3 db lower than the original vocal which gave me a very similar effect of what you are looking to create … You may have to experiment with the type of chorusing you want, I believe I used the ACOUSTIC DUET setting in the delay effects menu ……… WILLIE
