  • Edge Rays on text disappearing when over white background – Gary?!

    Hi there,

I am trying to add edge rays to text, I’ve done this successfully in the past but when I add a white background the rays vanish – any ideas?

V2 Text in Title tool with Edge Rays applied (Blue text, blue rays)
    V1 White Background

To create the White background I’ve tried using Title tool to make a separate layer, I’ve tried adding a white background within the text layer itself and I’ve tried creating a white title tool graphic and video mixdown to create (effectively) a piece of footage.

    Any ideas?

Hi Alex. Rays normally add luminance (brightness) to the background; they have no opacity of their own. So if you add blue rays to a white background, you get… white. (It may be super-bright in the blue channel, but still white).

But, you can turn up the Affect Alpha parameter to make the rays partially opaque; then instead of adding they’ll composite over the background (depending on how much alpha you add). Hopefully that will give you the look you’re interested in.
