  trying to get a layer to affect another layer

  I am trying to get a text clip to be affected by a clip that has rain drops falling on the lens so that it appears that the text is being affected by the rain drops? does anyone know of an after affects filter that will do this? i have tried to key frame the bulge effect but there are too many rain drops to do this in an efficient way.

  Not sure exactly what kind of effect you want the rain to have on the text. There could be many. One option is to use a displacement effect on the text. Use the rain layer as the source of the displacement of the text.

  Make a copy of rain drops footage and use that layer as displacement map.
