In part two of our Shadows, 2 part tutorial, Bill O’Neil continues with an explanation of an effect that he’s constantly asked how it was done. He doesn’t use 3D — it’s done entirely in After Effects and the coolness of the scene is mostly from the lighting and shadows. As an added bonus, Bill includes his project files for snow and smoke.

Click on the link above to view Bill’s tutorial. If you haven’t done part one yet, you’ll want to click on the After Effects COW banner at the top of the page to find it along with all of the After Effects tutorials here at CreativeCOW.net.

Great tutorial Bill. I was following along in my trial version of AE 6.5 Pro; however, I do not see the Cycore plugins used in the subsequent smoke/snow projects. Does anyone know if these are missing from the 6.5 trial? Or, more likely, am I missing somethine obvious?

Many thanks for your consideration, Kevin

They are installed separately from the AE CD, so yes, they are probably missing from the trial.
