  • mimic 3D text possible in 2d mode?

Sorry if this is a stupid question and if its been asked a million times before, but I was wondering if there is some way to extrude the text or something in AE so that it looks or mimics 3D. I was just hoping to do a basic camera animation around some text and I was wondering if you can mimic 3D without buying any software that is actually a 3D program or plug-in. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS

The only way I know of is to use the shatter effect. The process involved to make static 3D text is a little convoluted, but shatter is one of the few After Effects effects that has a true 3D engine. You can find a video tutorial (and demo of final product) at XtReMe. It’s the third from the bottom.

There was a post 5 to 10 days ago talking about several layers of the same text over top of each other giving you a 3D look to the text. Look for that message.
