    Hi

I need to work out how to make amazing light effects like this

I need to make this happen to a different logo. How do I make lightning bolts hit things in after effects? Do i need a plug in? How do I make light beams travel up specific lines? Your help and guidance – as ever hugely appreciated.

the advanced lightning effect can definitely produce lightning bolts, and it can use the layer’s alpha as an ‘obscuration layer’ (that’s the alpha obstacle setting), though you example looks like they just create a few stills of lighting and sequence them.

cc light sweep can easily create a soft sweep across a logo. for a hard edged sweep, you’d probably want to use another layer to be the light sweep, then use a track matte to clip that layer to only highlight the parts of the logo.
