  • How to Remove a Claymation Seam?

    Hey guys,

Let me preface by saying that this is my first Creative Cow post. I’m looking forward to your feedback.

I’m working on a clay-mation short and I need to eliminate the seem where a model’s neck meets its body.

Here’s a still from the shot. The model in question is the boy in the middle.

He enters frame from screen left and is on screen for approximately 80 frames.

    I’ve tried the following approaches:
    1) An adjustment layer with a feathered mask and blur
    2) Painting and clone-stamping
    3) Covering up the problematic area with another part of the frame by duplicating the layer, freeze-framing it, masking a clean section of the frame, moving it over the seam, and tracking it with him as he moves.
    4) Using the wire-removal effect

All of them worked to some extent but none of them were satisfactory. Are there any alternative approaches that can resolve this problem? It shows up again in a few other shots so I want to make sure I’m using the most effective and efficient solution before I invest a lot of time into it.
