Hi, i’m new to the Cow so i’m hoping this is the right forum.

Whenever I export an AE5.5 generated PAL DV avi into Premiere once Premiere renders it there is a faint grid like pattern in the image.

It’s very faint but is visible especially on television playback and is highly noticeable on broadcast monitors.

Also can anyone explain why a comp exported from AE5.5 as an avi has to be rendered in premiere before being usable? Am I just deeply foolish and have missed the point somewhere?

    Hope someone can help.

Please feel free to email me direct at vanishedfilm@yahoo.com

i’m happy to send a still frame or sequence to anyone who can help?
    best regards

Uhm, DV is a compressed format based upon blocks, so what’s your point? Also if Premiere re-renders everything this will even diminish quality since it applies compression on an already compressed file. Basically what I’m saying: your workflow is wrong. Either render uncompressed from AE or use a CoDec that Premiere understands natively (depending on your hardware) and does not need to re-render). You simply need to render from AE ‘cos Premiere does not have all functions of AE. Newer versions of AE might import Premiere projects and vice versa, but beyond basic timeline transfer with a few properties and effects common to both apps you still cannot replace one with the other.
