  • Video Preview Widescreen on Non-16×9 Monitor

Sorry if this is a newbie question, but I couldn’t find anything when I searched the forum.

Anywho, so I’m working on a widscreen DV project (720×480) in AE, but I can’t preview the 16×9 output on my 4×3 video monitor (I see the video, but it’s scaled incorrectly to fit the 4×3 space). The monitor I’m using has no 16×9 display mode, so that’s not an option.

Is there a way to setup external video previews to display 16×9 content properly on a 4×3 monitor (i.e. After Effects applying the black bars)?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Sean

Create a regular DV preset comp (call it “preview”) and drag the widescreen comp into it. Scale it to 75%. Work in the other comp, but use this comp for previewing.

Sadly, I know no way of altering the external preview to letterbox a 16:9 comp. It would be a nice feature for those without a 16:9 switch on the monitor.

Yeah, I figured that out a couple minutes before I saw your reply. But thanks anyway!
