Encore: DVD video edges are cut off when played on Tv screen
Hello,
I Edited project in Premiere Pro CC, Exported as Mpeg2, Settings match (so far I tried over 30 different combinations). It looks good when playback on computer. In encore sides are cut to the action safe frame and thats how it plays back on TV. How to scale it down so it will fit properly.
I have been using Adobe for almost 3 years and I never had such a problem. I talked to Adobe support agent and he concluded that probably something is wrong with my TV. I test it on friend’s TV but the issue is the same.

Hi Agata,
Your export format is “MPEG-2” at 1920×1080, when it should be “MPEG-2 DVD” at 720×480 (the only size for NTSC DVD). Please note the “DVD” part of the format. If you send anything else to Encore, it WILL need to transcode the footage again.
Once you choose “MPEG-2 DVD”, then select a Preset, such as “NTSC DV Widescreen”.
You can manually change the export field order to “Upper” to match the source. You might also adjust the bitrate depending on the length of the program.

It worked on sides (meaning right and left) but now top and bottom are cut off.

Your settings look fine, so I would suspect the DVD player. While most will auto-detect whether the DVD should be displayed at 4:3 or 16:9, I have seen some where you must go into the DVD setup menu and tell it what to do. Do you have another player you can test on, or perhaps use the computer with free viewer software such as VLC Media Player?

In DVD setup menu only 4:3 is available I can’t change it to 16:9. I used friend’s DVD player to check my previous exports and the issue was the same (I will do it again just to make sure). When comes to computer playback regardless of program I’m using: VLC, PowerDVD etc ..It looks fine. Just the TV playback is troublesome.
I also did an export using 2.21:1 aspect ratio and although there are black bars on all four sides making the image smaller I think it looks better than the previous ones. If I won’t be able to figure it out it will be my only option.
Last question just to make sure; is it possible that there is still something wrong with export settings or encore settings? Or as you mentioned before it’s probably the TV display issue?Thank you

Have you changed any defaults/presets in Encore? Basically, if you export an “MPEG-2 DVD” clip as 16:9, and simply Import that into a NEW Encore project using existing defaults, it just ought to work…something is amiss somewhere. I’m assuming that in Premiere, the video fills the Program Monitor view correctly, and also in the Export preview?

I am using the default Encore setting so it should be fine. As you mentioned in Premiere video fill the monitor correctly, when comes to encore video is cut to fit the safe area.

How does video look in Encore preview, before burning?
