  • Does Adobe After Effects CS4 run on a 32-bit computer?

Posted by Vic Noseworthy on February 28, 2012 at 2:11 am

    Hi folks,
I just read something about Adobe After Effects CS4 being “optimized” for a 64-bit system. My MacBook Pro is a 32-bit computer (of course, it does have dual Intel processors). Will AE CS4 run on it?
    Thanks,
    Vic

CS4 is 32-bit native, the switch to 64-bit occurred with CS5. You should be rockin’.

The admittedly confusing language about After Effects CS4 being “optimized for 64-bit” was referring to the fact that After Effects CS4 could start multiple instances of itself to take advantage of all of the memory in your system. Each of those instances, being a 32-bit application, could only use 4GB of RAM.

With After Effects CS5 and later, each instance of After Effects can use any amount of RAM that you have installed.
