Hi again, I’ve always used the ‘automatic’ setting, which has been on 4MB VBR 2 PASS, with good results. However, this last time (as it was a s16mm project), the quality seems noticably worsened in the transcoding process. I’m just wondering if there are any reasons why I shouldn’t manually choose the higher bitrate 7MB VBR 2 PASS? Will it be compatible with all players?

Automatic transcode settings in Encore are moving targets, based on the amount of video material in a project. It’s not permanently set to 4MB or 7MB or anything else.

Are you possibly referring to the default preset that appears when you open the Transcode Settings dialog?

Ok, yes you are right, I assumed what was shown in the settings when I opened the dialog box was the ‘automatic setting’.

So since I only have about 40min of footage altogether, I should just keep it on automatic, and it should be choosing the best settings for me?

    Cheers!

Yes. Encore’s automatic transcoding does a great job.
