  • Encore – DVD capacity?

    Hi,

Using Encore’s Transcode settings I’ve noticed when it comes to creating the final dvd image, the file size is considerably bigger than what the average DVD can hold.

The video and sound is encoded to a very high quality, which is perfect, but they don’t fit on a standard dvd, especially for a standard, movie-length with bloopers and behind-the-scenes features.

Is there something I’m missing? Are there larger DVD discs out there I can use instead of the usual 4.7gb?

    Thanks,
    David.

Absolutely…there is the DVD 9 which hold about 8.5 Gig (don’t ask why it’s called a DVD 9), but you do need a burner that can burn to these disks

Otherwise sometimes you can get double sided disks…

    David-

How long is your video? It sounds like you need to customize your bitrates, which will involve doing some “bit budgeting”. Mike Velte’s site has a rough guide to what bitrates to use to fit a given amount of video on a DVD:
