  • Problem with Bands of Colored Pixels on NX5U Recording

Posted by Heming Nelson on May 10, 2014 at 10:27 pm

Last week my Sony HXR-NX5U started recording video with these bands of colored pixels. It only happens when recording Progressive footage. Interlaced footage appears to be just fine. Also, in the example below, two of the bands appear in alternative frames from the third band. The only other piece of info is that the pattern of the bands is not consistent between recordings, but if consistent within each clip.

I reset the camera. Looked online to see if there was an available
firmware update. And have hunted around various forums to see if
anyone else has experienced this. But no luck.

Anyone experienced anything similar and fixed it?

Here’s what the video looks like:

Thanks in adnvance if anyone has any thoughts.

I am having the same exact problem with my NXCAM. Did you find a resolution to the problem?

Unfortunately, no. I had to send it to the Sony service center in NJ. The bill ended up being $800. I never discussed the exact issue with them, but the description on the invoice was “Intermittent VC-582 PCB. ESTIMATE FOR FLAT RATE REPAIR. Evaluation, replace part(s) required for repair, perform data transfer, alignment to factory specifications, update firmware to latest version and confirm opertion.”

thank you! i used your previously mentioned repair code to look up more info. seems like there are a few connections that probably just needed re-soldering. i’m downloading a service manual and we’re going to try to fix it ourselves. seems like a super expensive fix for a camera that we can buy used/refurbished for only $1650!

We had same problem. But worse. One camera was 30p one 24p. 24p got lines. Viewfinder was OK. Change to 60I from 24p and it recorded fine.
