  • Recording issue on NX5U (pink line across footage)

The company I work for uses a Sony NX5U as one of their field cameras. I shot footage of a basketball game on Saturday, and when the footage played back in the computer a flashing pink line appears across all of the footage, in the lower third of the screen.

Footage was recorded on multiple SD cards and shows up in on-camera playback, in CS5.5, and in the final exported version. Early game footage, however, does not contain the line. I have checked all the settings and tested different SD cards in both card slots and encountered the same issue.

I am lost. Anyone else run into this?

I have never seen nor heard of this issue before.

However, looking at your screen shot, it looks to me that it is one of two things.

    1. A faulty SD card or card slot driver.
    2. A sensor with one failed row.

It sounds like you have eliminated all variables for the first possibility, that only leaves the second.

I would call Sony support and once you talk to a tech, send him the pictures.
There is a strong possiblity this will have to be sent in to Sony for repair.

Actually, there is one other possibility. Early on (First year made) in NX5Us history, they found a software bug that caused recording issues. You could try the sony website, check the latest version of firmware. Then compare it to yours.

We are pretty sure this isn’t a firmware. The sensor makes the most sense. Trying to get a repair estimate from Sony. Continuing to do some more research. What is very unclear is how it happened. Then again, technology doesn’t work perfectly forever.

    Thanks for the help, John.
