S x S cards and Mavericks
Posted by Ron Stanford on February 9, 2014 at 2:34 pmI just (probably very foolishly) moved to Mavericks on my MBP and discovered that the S x S driver is not compatible with the new OS. I’ve looked online for an updated S x S driver that will work with Mavericks, but can’t find one.
1) Does a new S x S driver exist?
2) What are my alternatives? The reason I bought this 15″ MBP in the first place is that it has an S x S slot. Should I buy a card reader? Which one does anyone recommend? Thanks,
Ron

February 10, 2014 at 3:24 pmDevice Driver update should be confirmed shortly, in the meantime you can use the camera or either the SBACUS10 or SBACUS20 readers

February 10, 2014 at 3:32 pmThanks.
This morning I’ve been talking to a guy at Sony who is trying to get to the bottom of this. Sounds like they’re on the verge of making it work. When I get a link to the new driver (if he can find it) I’ll post it.As I understand it, the card readers are much slower because they plug into the USB port. My MBP doesn’t have USB3.

February 11, 2014 at 12:52 amI downloaded this driver the SxS and i-link on my 2008 Mac Book Pro but that was before I went to 10.1 Maverick… I did the driver first and then Maverick….and it all works:
Try this driver as I hope this helps….

February 11, 2014 at 10:42 amHi Ron
Slightly off point.. but like you I had a USB2 computer with the express card slot.. because the older reader was a pain with AC power and slow USB2.. but the USB2 of the computer out to HDD was very slow too.
I changed to an Airmac and the “newer” USB3 card reader.. which BUS powered and very fast.. no driver needed (mounts as a drive) and you have TB or USB3 outs.. if your thinking to “upgrade” Ive found this a good combination.. and only the UDF driver to update..

February 11, 2014 at 1:24 pmHi Ron – I’m in the same boat as you – the slot on the 17inch MacBook pro isn’t working under Mavericks as yet. Anyway, I’ve got an extra partition on my MBP with Mountain Lion (which works fine with SxS cards in the slot) and boot into that when I need to off-load the cards. Once it’s all done, just reboot into Mavericks and it’s all there. Hope this helps. Martin.

February 13, 2014 at 10:59 pmThe fellow from Sony wrote me back and gave me this URL for the Mavericks-friendly sxs driver.
The page specifically states that it is good for OS 10.8, but I downloaded it in my Mavericks MBP and it seems to work fine.
Thanks for everyone’s help on this.

February 14, 2014 at 4:27 pmThat’s it, please see my post on this topic, the driver version is actually 1.1.2 and is not labeled correctly on the site. Fixing this now.
