After spending the efforts to go to STUFFIT and downlosd their stuff.
I can not find the example masks or the other layer that you have wrapped the circle type Blah Blah Blah around. Please help me with this. I have taken a good bit of time to answer my questions by looking at the example project.Bryan Preston- precomp-ex1.aep
I can’t even find a mask. Bryan please reply I am anxious to see your effects to answer any questions I might have.
Or do I need to go back to STUFFIT. and get more STUFFIT
Actually I have a suggestion on your text You could take out all the BL’s in Blah blah And it could read hahahahahaha. Don’t you think that would be a little more graphically pleasing?
By the way I didn’t use your link to get there.

It really sounds like you need to get some of the basics down before going any further.

Kathlyn thanks for your help. Pre- comp is the stage I’m at with AF. Mainly,creating a comp layer as an engine for displacement maps. Thanks for your additional links.
It would be good if you took a look at the paragraph that recommends the project file.

the way to make these effects work in harmony is to remove the Basic 3D effect, precomp the layer, then apply the Basic 3D and tilt back to -45 degrees. Now you have a pseudo-3D layer that, if you use masks carefully, you can wrap around another layer to give your animations a little more depth. If you have any questions, just take a look at the example project.
If so, he says if you use masks carefully, you can make the text wrap around an object. He doesn’t actually take you through the mask part.

Kathlyn, I do appreciate your help.
“If you use masks carefully.” Carefully is the key word. I thought he used masks carefully and I wanted to see his skillful usage of the masks. Where as “If you use masks” would imply a different meaning.
Once again thanks for your attention.
I study after effects every waking hour. Unless I eat or exercise. I am creating an art oriented DVD for sale in stores and galleries.
(Christmas is coming soon= retail).I am currently working on tasteful ways to animate the content of 11 different still photographs. Pre-comp will be very handy in anim segmenting. Displacement map will be one of the most used effects along with TC stroke & shine. (David Zandnerg). I have started sluthing the tutorial sections, at your suggestion. Good move.
One question- I think the clipping off of glow radius on a photoshop title done on a 320×240 canvas then imported into AE comp 720×540 sq pix is a non issue in 6.5 pro. I can’t seem to get the glow to clip no matter how large I make it around the type. I have seen pre-comp as a solution to clipping in Barry Mc’s tutorial also.
The cow is cool and I’m glad to have your dedicated efforts.
