  Transfer of SxS material using SBAC-US10 to Mac incredibly slow… why?

  Hi

  I use an SBAC-US10 SxS card reader to transfer material to my Mac. Sometimes as iMac, sometimes a MacBook Pro. I’ve tried going straight into the computer and plugging into an external hard drive. But whatever I do, a 32GB always takes almost 3 hours to transfer. And that’s just transfer, not convert or anything else.
  What am I doing wrong?
  Any solutions or suggestions welcome.

  Not sure what the exact problem is but does it improve if you take the external out of the picture and copy locally?

  Are you copying using the OS or XDCAM Browser/Clip Browser? If it’s one of the latter, the Verification process adds some overhead and will increase copy time.

  Also, copying 100 small clips equaling 32 GB will take much longer than copying 32 1 GB clips. Do you have a lot of very short clips?

  I use the same card reader and it is much faster than than that. I use Clip Browser with the data check on and it is about 1/2 hour. I also use an eFilm SDHC card reader and the Sony is much faster than that.

  I know this does not solve your problem but it at least confirms you have one.

  Try using Clip Browser and just hit “copy all”. Try it with data check “on” and “off” although I don’t recommend using it regularly with data check off.
