  what does client need for editing xdcam footage?

  I need to send EX1R footage to another editor, who has never used XDCAM material before and has a brand-new copy of FCP 7. He has a tight deadline, and I’d like to make it as easy as possible for him, so I used Log & Transfer to translate the XDCAM native files to Quicktimes.

  All of our computers have Sony XDCAM software, so I don’t have any way to tell whether FCP is using the Sony plug-in to interpret the footage after it has gone through the “log & transfer” process.

  What, if anything, does he need beyond the basic FCP software to edit Quicktime files generated by the Log & Transfer plug-in? The description of the files reads: “XDCAM EX1080p24 (35Mb/s VBR)”.

  FCP7 supports XDCAM EX .mov natively so that’s all you’d need to give them to keep it simple. They’d be able to import those files directly.
