  How do I transfer XDCAM footage?

  I have 3 discs of XDCAM HD footage which I need transferred to a hard drive, but I do not have access to an XDCAM camera or reader. Is there a more accessible camera/reader that would be able to make the transfer? Or does anyone know of a NYC-based rental house or private renter who may be able to assist?

  There’s the Sony PDW-U1 for about $3000.
  In my post work I’ve send clients to AbelCine in NYC for XDCAM disc transfers

  Anecdotally they gave one of my clients a really low price because they used a piece of rental gear that was free that day rather than booking a room with a deck/reader.

  Great, thanks Craig! I just spoke to Abelcine and they have a few PDW-U1s available for a very affordable rental rate ($100/day, no insurance needed). FYI they can do the transfer themselves, but at a much higher rate ($150/hour of footage). Very helpful — thanks again!

  Why do you need a camera or card reader? Is this on an SxS card?

  If it’s on the hard drive, just copy the entire BPAV folder over to your other drive.

  The footage is not on a card; it’s on a PFD23 disc, and very few cameras/readers read this disc. And it’s not yet on a hard drive.
