  Ingesting to FCP on the XDcam deck PDW HD1500

  Hi there,

  We have just set up our XDcam deck to our FCP which has the blackmagic hardware installed.

  Using the SDI cables we have it all running and I can see picture etc etc. I am ingesting on the capture setting: BLACKMAGIC PAL – APPLE PRO RES

  Its the only thing picking up the video and audio basically.

  The problem is that the other footage Im working with is HD but when this comes in off the XDcam its 720 x 576 and when I tick the anamorphic button it just looks stretched.

  I have no idea whether this is set up correctly and i need the footage coming in to match the rest of the other footage in the correct aspect ratio.

  Is there a better setting to use to ensure that Im ingesting at the right quality etc??

  Are you taking the SD-SDI from the PDW and not the HD-SDI? The HD-SDI will always be HD and can’t be changed.

  If it’s not cropped or letterboxed the SD-SDI output will look stretched in a 4:3 display or capture window because the video is still 16:9. This is determined by the setting of setup menu 930, which handles the aspect ratio settings used on the down converted output.

  Otherwise check the ‘Blackmagic PAL’ preset you are using; PAL usually means SD and does not necessarily translate to HD @ 50i..
