EMERGENCY – I Formatted SXS Card
Posted by Vivek Marimuthu on August 22, 2010 at 6:17 amI shot a footage on an SXS card and formatted in error before I unwrapped them in the XDCam Browser 2.0 that I have.
I recovered the clips using recovermyfiles.com software. I see that the clips are in MP4 format and in the folders resemble the structure you usually see in the SXS cam.
When I opened the folder with the recovered clips in XDcam browser, I do not see the clips. I opened the folder using VegasPro9e and I see the MP4 file, but Vegas wont open the clip nor is it played in the normal media player

August 22, 2010 at 2:30 pmI cannot open the recovered footages in VLC / quicktime/ windows media player. In vegas pro 9e, I can see it in the explorer but cannot pull it to the timeline / project media list.

August 22, 2010 at 3:04 pmA tangental comment but these issues are “learning opportunities.”
Although you didn’t mention your workflow, this is why I’m not a fan of SxS (unless you have the money to buy many cards).
On should have enough cards so that one never has to offload and delete/format a card during a shoot. SDHC makes that a more affordable option. My subjective opinion but the biggest fail point is human error. Simplify workflow. Avoid offloading during a shoot. -

August 22, 2010 at 3:07 pmVLC can natively play EX XDCAM mp4 files. Are you saying you can’t open the files at all in VLC? Please be absolutely sure. I’m concerned because you mention other players as well that definitely can not play the files in the same sentence.
Please focus on that one player (VLC) and try to open one of the mp4 directly. Report any messages it gives you.
I believe your version of Vegas should also play the mp4 directly. I’m not sure if it needs the rest of the metadata.
There is a company that specializes in rebuilding the mp4 but their testing software is Mac only. If it’s important to you, borrow a Mac.

August 22, 2010 at 5:20 pmyour best bet is to send your card to https://www.aeroquartet.com/ if you are windons or buy thier software if you are on mac but be warned that it will be very expensive!!! I was forced to use them once when I mistakenly formatted a card during shoot. More or less they are the only one that I know that can deliver on XDCAM camera codec.

August 23, 2010 at 4:56 amIf they can’t be played in VLC then they are damaged. As noted before by myself and others, you should contact https://www.aeroquartet.com/
