  • “Day for Night” Picture Profile Settings?

Twenty-three years in the business and I’ve never had to shoot “Day for Night” before. This is for a NO-BUDGET short film I am doing for some high school students. I imagine lighting plays a big part, typically, but does anyone have any guidance for Picture Profile settings on my EX3?

    Thanks in advance!

Bob, I’d shoot normal and do the effect in post. You’ll have far more control that way.

    Hi Bob,

Some tips from the American Cinematographer Manual – GENERALLY speaking, you want direct sun light and blue sky; “low-angle, back-cross lighting”. Using ND filters and not correcting for exposure (causing under exposure) are also part of the technique.

You can read a more in one of the American Cinematorgrapher’s Manual.

    Best,

    Dave J
