Banding on Clips In XDCam Transfer but not Browser

My cameraman friend who has an EX3 is trying to get his footage into iMovie. He has a Mac Pro 2.26 quad core, 6 gigs ram, OS 10.8. He sees the clips perfectly in XDCam Browser but once brought into XDCam Transfer he gets gray steady banding across every clip. He does not have Final Cut installed, and was looking to Calibrated Software for a plug-in to convert the files. However, this too gives the banding.
What the heck is going on? Could it be related to not having Final Cut Pro or Express? I did install the drivers with him while I was over at his place. I certainly don’t have this problem with any of my XDCam cameras or Macs. Any ideas?

Didn’t pay for the Calibrated Software plugin? Sounds like it might be in trial mode.I know on systems that do have FCP, EX .mov clips work fine in iMovie. You need the codec though and Calibrated should work but the gray band is visible in trial mode.

Do you think this banding is caused by the trial mode from Calibrated? That didn’t happen on mine. I had to use Calibrated for a corrupted BPAV folder once. Therefore if my friend downloads AppDelete and deletes the plug-in, do you think it will work? Or should he just trash the plug-in?

I think CalibratedSoftware has specific delete instruction in a ReadMe somewhere or maybe it’s on their site. Removing the plugin will remove the ability to use EX .mov entirely though.
Trial DEFINITELY has gray banding unless they’ve changed it.

This is more of a peripheral comment, but since it was mentioned at the beginning: the last I heard, the XDCAM codec does NOT come with Final Cut Express. It didn’t in our case.
