Splitting BPAV folder
I had a shoot with the same client that ended up being split into two sessions. After the morning session I came back to the office and uploaded my card using Shotput Pro to create my two archive locations and then used XDCam transfer to make my working media folder.
For the afternoon session I had left all my original shots on the card and then kept shooting the new material for the afternoon session. When loading the card into the computer later I now had all my original shots already loaded plus all the new material I wanted to add.
Is there a way to just load the new material? With Shotput Pro I don’t believe I can do that. With Clip Browser will it allow me to pick and choose which shots I want to add to an existing archive? Or do I need to add the entire card after the second session?

I would not split BPAV folders but split the footage later in transfer. And don’t mess with anything in the BPAV forlders. Later you can determine which of the clips you want separated in XDCam Transfer or which mpg4s are the ones you want to go one way.

Fooling with the BPAV folder will result in tears, frustration and the probability you will have fragments (if any) of your two sessions. Storage is cheaper than re-shooting.
If there is one thing that SxS Sony EX cards require (any card media really) is very stringent “data hygiene”. Many of the posts that ask about corrupted or missing files stem from some breach in the protocol.
All risky habits best broken. Used to be you never rewound Betacam SP tapes in the field, always pushed the REC INH tab, and labeled cassettes as they came out of the camera. Usually you only did NOT do one of those things once… and hopefully never. I digress….

Hi Jim. In Clip Browser, open up two explorer windows. In the top window, load the new clips. In the bottom window load the existing BPAV folder that you’ve already transferred to the computer, which will display the clips already present. Simply drag and drop the new clips into the bottom window. They will be added to the existing BPAV folder.

The Clip Browser will allow you to safely “split” a BPAV. You can select the shots and create a new completely functional BPAV. Do not try to do it any other way though.
