Is it bad to always charge a BP-U60 lithium ion battery (for an EX1) if only 25% has been used?? Should we wait until its fairly drained (75%-85%) before charging??

    Thanks for your help

Lithium ion batteries are one of the best energy-to-weight ratios sources of power with no memory effect, so go ahead and recharge them when you need to.

I now there is not supposed to be a memory problem with these batteries.

But I still think LION batts will loose capacity over time if you only run them down 25% or so for years.

So I run them down all the way once a month or so. This really applies to laptops.

I got 2 of the longer running batts for the cam, and use the orig small batt for the HD recorder on the EX3, and that uses only 25% of the power in 4 hrs of recording, so it never really drains all the way.

I actually make a point of running that battery in cam when not using HD recorder, just to drain all the way down.

Maybe I am being over cautious but it is not that hard to run batts all the way down once a month. I mark my batts with the last drain date, so I can keep track.
