  • XDCAM Transfer to FCP – duplicate clip PROBLEM

Posted by Annu Lilja on May 15, 2008 at 3:39 pm

    Hi,

I have imported a bunch of clips to FCP using XD Cam Transfer. For some reason this creates TWO identical clips in my FC bin. But the clips are linked to each other somehow; when I activate one, it’s duplicate becomes active as well. When I insert such a clip to the Sequence timeline from the Viewer, it only creates one clip, and seems to be normal. But if I drag the clip from the bin to the timeline, it creates two identical clips on the sequence timeline. Not all clips have these identical duplicates, which makes me think I have changed some setting along the way without realizing the effect it will have.

    Any idea what’s going on?

    Thanks in advance!!!!

Update XDCAM Transfer Tool to 2.7.0.

Personally I use Transfer Tool on the Desktop and then import into FCP. Unless one is mid project, I don’t see any advantage to having FCP open when I’m just re-wraping files to mov.

You can delete the clips in your browser and reimport. The above two suggestions should fix the issue though.

I still use XDCAM Transfer Tool 2.1.0.

    First open XDCAM Transfer Tool.
Then choose “Import Sony XDCAM” in FCP.

Doing like this, I get only one clip. Each will get a “-1” in the end of its name, but I do not mind …

Hi, thanks for the hint, I’ll try that. But is the second clip somehow essential? Will I lose some information if I import clips with -1? What is the function with having two linked clips, it just seems so unpractical.

Update XDCAM Transfer Tool to 2.7. There are serious bugs in 2.1 and there’s no reason to stay with it.

The duplicate clips are an FCP bug – fixed in 6.0.3.

There is no XDCAM Transfer version 2.7 that is intended for the EX1.

Version 2.7 is for HD422. The latest version for EX1 is 2.51.

I had the exact same problem, duplicates all the time, very irritating. I have some faith in the FC 6.0.3 fixing it comment as I have not seen dups for a while.

2.7 works FINE for EX1. It has additional features for XDCAM HD422.

Your reasoning makes no sense. It’s like saying there’s no reason to update Final Cut Pro, Vegas, Premiere because they’ve added support for an additional codec you don’t have.

2.7 fixes bugs and has other minor improvements.

    Who said I was reasoning?

Maybe if Sony did a little better job fully explaining what they have on the website, I and others would know what to download and why.

But in any case thanks for your info, I shall give HD422 a try.
