    Hello,

I’m importing individual layers from an illusrator file using the the “Show Import Options” function in InDesign. I currently have 20 layers from the same .ai file imported as separated graphics. I recently opened the Illustrator file and made some changes.

Now, when I update the graphics in InDesign, instead of updating the graphic with only the layer I originally imported, it updates each file with every layer in the illustrator file.

Is there a way for me to have InDesign update just the layer?

Thanks in advance for the help.

    Jeff

    G’day Jeff,

Yep, InDesign is a bit of a pain in that way. If you add, delete, or rename layers in your source file InDesign doesn’t know how to handle your original Object Layer Options — so it imports all visible layers. If you just edit content on the various layers, you’re fine — but make edits to the layers themselves and you got yourself a world or arrgh.
