Arranging pictures/videos in the shape of Letters
Hi there
I want to use two hundred pictures of someone named EMMA to form the letters EMMA before zooming into each one in the form of a slideshow.
Is there any fast way to arrange a large number of pictures into a coherent letter pattern?

If you have access to trapcode particular you could create the text in a precomp and use that as a layer emmitter. Then all the photographs could be put in a precomp as custom particles.

Wow cool idea Thanks! But won’t having pictures of particles overload the graphics card like crazy?

Depends on your system. I never tried having them spell a word, but I have used 100 plus pictures to create a picture montage using particular. I have a pretty beefed up system just for AE, so it didn’t have much of a problem.
If you think things will be sluggish, you might adust the pictures before though. Create an action in photoshop and resize them all to 400 x 400 or so. If you are working in SD that should be big enough to accomplish what you need.

Nope. AE doesn’t render on the GPU.
Since AE renders on the CPU, this will require a very healthy amount of RAM.
