Splattered Paint Effect
I have observed this effect on many recent shows, Viva La Bam, Discovery Channel promos etc. It is a very cool effect, it looks like someone threw paint on the screen– is this a plug-in?

It’s probably real paint textures used as a mask of sorts. You could probaly make your own with a digital camera and some black paint.

One quick technique I use a lot is drwing multiple circular masks on a solid – some big some small some tiny and then animating and offsetting the mask expansion property. It’s a very effective and quick ‘splat-on’ type of effect.
